We love this bit because it is perfect for the Big Eq Ring! Very soft in the horse’s mouth, while the short shank pelham gives you the precision you need to nail those technical courses.
The pelham jaw piece combines the action of a snaffle and a bar and snaffle. The bit has one jaw piece but can be ridden with one or two reins. If you choose to ride with one rein, a converter is needed. The pelham is a lever-action mouthpiece. The longer the shanks, the sharper the effect. The baby pelham has short shanks and therefore has a milder effect than the normal pelham. A pelham bit is mainly used for strong horses, horses with too little space in the mouth for two mouthpieces, or horses that have to get used to a bar and snaffle. This bit is not suitable for inexperienced riders.
The double-broken bit has two pivot points, is shaped more to the mouth, and is a bit looser in the mouth. This bit works on the tongue, the layers, and the corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws, the hinge points can then press on the layers, which can cause wounds. Compared to a single broken bit, this bit has more effect on the tongue. A double-jointed mouthpiece is a standard mouthpiece.
The Sweet Iron bits are made of steel and have a recognizable blue color. Sweet Iron develops surface rust through contact with (air) moisture that tastes sweet and stimulates the horse’s saliva production naturally. This will cause the horse to foam more, which ensures better acceptance of the bit. This rusting process (oxidation) changes the blue color of the TRUST bits to brown-gray.
*Due to the contagious nature of the equine disease EHV-1 and per biosecurity measures suggested by the American Association of Equine Practitioners The Farm House will no longer accept returns on bits.
